Wow, my weekends are filled with so much excitement and so little schoolwork. This is a bad start to the school year ...

Oh well! Thoughts about Doctor Who!

I must say, watching the season finale in a Who-themed bar with a crowd of fans was AWESOME, even if I had to perch precariously on a bench because the chairs were taken, and the constant cheering occasionally drowned out what the characters were saying.

The Way Station was amazing --> I took cell phone pictures of myself next to the awesome TARDIS which was bigger on the inside, even if I didn't actually go inside because the line to the restroom was super-long at all times. The people were amazing too. There was a very well-dressed Eleven, a Madame Kovarian, a man in a fez, multiple sonic screwdrivers, many colorful scarves (which is ... a Five thing? Maybe?), and toy Daleks.

And watching it in a theater setting with fans is fun because everyone laughs at jokes and cheers when River and/or Amy kicks ass, which is always heartwarming and cheer-inducing and fun. And for example when the Brigadier's death was announced, I have never watched anything with the Brig before but I knew it was sad because I know he's important in Old Who, but everyone else's gasp of horror helped me feel tragically sad about it as well.

As to the actual content of the finale... well ... it was almost exactly like the S5 finale in theme, IMO, with the alternate universes that must converge and Amy remembering things about both, and the Doctor suddenly being saved at the very end. More importantly, it was exactly in the S5 finale in that I had a lot of fun watching it from beginning to end and have no complaints, but if you sit down and actually think through the timey-wimey-ness of it, it makes little to no sense at all. Because when you have a time-traveling protagonist and time-traveling villains, this means that the Doctor would have to have successfully convinced the Silence he was dead for the rest of time. Because if they can time travel, they would notice if at ANY point in time, the Doctor was alive.

Also, I want to know where in Amy's timeline the Amy at the very end is. So Amy ... went through season 5 and 6.1, was kidnapped and the flesh her went through 6.1-Good Man Goes to War, then she spends three months cooling her heels, then she goes through the rest of Season 6 and starts her own perfume company and ... and then

Because technically time stopped at 2011 which is the Amy pre most of season 6 as March 22 is the date that she and Rory traveled to the US to meet the Doctor in Utah, BUT since in the alternate universe time was happening all the time everywhere, the Amy there could have been an Amy at any point in her timeline, who just happened to remember stuff from her other life. BUT when the world was normal again and time happened normally again, it was ... March 22, 2011. But clearly the Amy at the very end had JUST remembered the stuff that happened in the alternate universe, BUT she couldn't have ...

well I guess maybe she and Rory on March 22, 2011 were with the Doctor, and then went traveling with him, and then when he dropped them off again, he did it at March 22, 2011, WHICH is how she suddenly remembers ....?

But then, Doctor Who doesn't make much sense continuity-wise if you ever take a big-picture view of all the seasons, so it's no point nitpicking. You just don't question it and enjoy the ride ...

Things I especially liked:

-Amy killing Eyepatch Lady, especially her line about where River gets it from
-Amy showing up with a machine gun to kill all the Silence who were attacking Rory
-Rory calling Amy "Mum" (or was it "Ma'am"?) --> replacing the policewoman/centurion as their new favorite sex roleplay, y/y?
-Amy and River having conversations about where they are and how they feel
-Amy acknowledging all the feelings that she has about having a daughter that she doesn't get to have (which, I so want to write a fanfic about all of Amy's feelings about this entire situation)
-I can't believe every facetious fan who joked, "I wonder if the question of Doctor Who?" was actually right.
-Amy realizing she's the Doctor's mother-in-law.
-Rory being all angsty and nobly heroically sacrifice-y with the way he hid how much his eyedrive pained him (though seriously, everyone else's was at least crackling with electricity) and Amy coming to save the day anyways.
-The way we didn't see the Silence at the very beginning, just the way the Doctor and Winston Churchill were more and more armed each time.
-The way the Doctor was being an awkward matchmaker with all these funny lines but I COULDN'T WATCH AND CONCENTRATE because the Silence were too creepy.

Okay, I feel like I have not read enough well-written Amy/Rory porn. Lots of lovely Amy/Rory PG fic, and sexy Amy/Rory/Eleven fic, but considering it is canon that Amy/Rory have lots of kinky sexy fun, fandom must be producing well-written porn somewhere that I am not seeing.
