Two years later ...
Mar. 22nd, 2008 09:55 pmI feel so old ... sigh
I went to one of those parties tonight, with all the parents from SLMCS that I studiously tried to avoid as much as possible, and of course nobody I knew was there. To add insult to the injury, a new generation of children seemed to have sprouted when I wasn't paying attention -- four college kids I'd never seen before from Mizzou, a newly-moved kid Hillary seemed somewhat acquainted with, and Simon had grown so ... punky (longer hair that almost covered his eyes, a more raucous personality, etc.) that I didn't recognize him at all.
And of course, the new kid seemed to think I was some sort of interloper.
Him: So, what school do you go to?
Me: USC.
Him: What's that?
Me: It's in California.
*long pause*
Him: Oh, you're in college
Me: Yes.
Him: I thought you were a sophomore!
Me: I'm a sophomore in college.
Him: I thought you were a sophomore in high school!
My thought: I'd gathered, dimwit.
I am not the interloper, fool. I am old hat at these things, although I wasn't quite as stellar as usual at my "perfect Chinese daughter" performance today, what with avoiding all the parents and their questions.
