Hmmmm. I am white, and I have to say, I have never identified with a dysfunctional white family on film or TV. Then again, my family has shit like Narcissistic Personality Disorder, so I am only reminded of them when I watch Criminal Minds hunting serial killers. (No, really.)
So maybe I'm just the wrong white person to be answering this because my family is so orbiting Pluto, but OTOH, maybe there's a bit of white privilege/entitlement here - that I can look at ALL these dysfunctional white families, turn up my nose and claim that NONE of them are like MY family. As if they *should* be, you know?
